ABOUT

The Hungarian accordionist Krisztián Palágyi has gained significant attention through his energetic and charismatic interpretations and is considered one of the most important accordionists of his generation.


In 2006, Krisztián began studying accordion with Nada Vjestica in Novi Sad, Serbia, where he acquired the essential technical foundations of accordion playing. The instrument increasingly became an integral part of his body. In 2009, he continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Cologne (Germany) with Prof. Edwin A. Buchholz and Prof. David Smeyers, completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Contemporary Interpretation with top honors.


As a young virtuoso, he has won over 20 first prizes in national and international competitions across Europe, including the German Accordion Music Prize in 2012. Krisztián speaks five languages fluently. In recent years, he has been supported by the Hartmut and Lore Schuler Foundation, the Yehudi Menuhin LMN (with participation in over 150 concerts), the Werner Richard – Dr. Dörken Foundation, Best of NRW, and the Dr. Werner Jackstädt Foundation.


His career is distinguished by diverse and innovative projects. He has performed with artists and ensembles such as Alexej Gerassimez, Carolin Widmann, Hiyoli Togawa, Signum Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Duo Zelinsky/Smeyers, Ensemble Moderne, Electronic ID, Ensemble 20/21, and regularly collaborates with renowned orchestras and dance theaters such as the Pina Bausch Dance Company, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, National Youth Orchestra of Germany, Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, Aachen Symphony Orchestra, under renowned conductors like Peter Eötvös, Sylvain Cambreling, Jörg Widmann, Lothar Zagrosek, and David Marlow, in Germany’s top concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie, Berlin and Cologne Philharmonic, Alte Oper Frankfurt, and Hercules Hall in Munich.
