Volodymyr Zelenskyy, born January 25, 1978, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, is a former comedian, actor, and television producer who transitioned into politics, eventually becoming the President of Ukraine in 2019. Before his political career, Zelenskyy built a successful career in entertainment, primarily in comedy and television.
Zelenskyy studied law at Kyiv National Economic University but pursued a career in entertainment, founding the production company Kvartal 95. Known for his comedic talent, he gained widespread popularity through Kvartal 95's satirical television programs, which often poked fun at Ukrainian politics and society. His fame skyrocketed with the television series Servant of the People, in which he starred as a high school teacher who unexpectedly becomes President of Ukraine after his anti-corruption rant goes viral. This role ironically mirrored his future political path and made him a household name across Ukraine.
In addition to Servant of the People, Zelenskyy starred in several popular Ukrainian films and television shows, including Love in the Big City, Rzhevskiy Versus Napoleon, and 8 First Dates. His work earned him a reputation as one of Ukraine’s leading entertainers. Kvartal 95, under his leadership, became one of the most influential production companies in Ukraine, known for comedy shows, stand-up performances, and films.
Zelenskyy’s entry into politics came as he announced his candidacy for President of Ukraine on December 31, 2018, under the political party named after his hit TV show, Servant of the People.
