Christopher Schmitz

ABOUT

Christopher Alan Schmitz composes original music for orchestra, concert band, jazz ensemble, choir, solo, chamber ensemble, and film. His music is performed internationally and recorded on the PARMA and Beauport Classical labels. Christopher’s scores are published and distributed by C. Alan Publications, Cimarron Press, Opus Music Publishers, and Cherry Classics. Recent awards and honors have come from the J. Samuel Pilafian Composition Competition, Composing in the Wilderness, Alabama Orchestra Association, Sammy Nestico Award, Ithaca College International Jazz Competition (runner-up, professional composer division), Music Teachers’ National Association (two commissions), and The American Prize (finalist, professional orchestra composer division). Christopher serves as Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition from the University of Texas at Austin.    More
