Tobias Wunderli

ABOUT

Tobias Wunderli was born in 1978 in Winterthur, Switzerland. He began piano lessons at the age of six. He then studied voice, as well as piano, cello, composition, and musicology in Zürich with Peter Kálmán. Later he continued his studies at the Musikhochschule Luzern, where he studied church music, voice, organ, and conducting with Stefan Albrecht and Ralf Weikert. He attended masterclasses for conducting in Russia, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. 

During his studies, he performed as a pianist and lead ensembles and choirs. In Sarmenstorf, where he is still the organist today, he led the church choir from 2004 until 2014. In the summer of 2017he returned as a guest conductor. He was also the organist in several other Swiss towns. 

In Switzerland he founded the “Ensemble de Tempore ” with the goal of performing projects outside of the mainstream and offering new kinds of listening experiences. The ensemble has performed at renowned locations such as the Predigerkirche in Zürich, the Hofkirche in Luzern, and the cathedral in Bern.

Tobias Wunderli has worked for many years with the Swiss composer Thomas Mattenberger and has conducted the premieres of several of his recent works: (s)in(e) nomine 2008, Diaphainon I 2010, La Messe de Notre Dame 2014 as well as Perpetuum mobile 2017/2018 and Hommàge à Perotin 2019More
